Hon Prime Minister Dr Pohiva Tuionetoa

12 August 2020 Hon Prime Minister Dr Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa stated through an interview with Katalina Tohi that Public Enterprises Boards are currently interviewing applicants for the Board of Directors’ role for Government’s businesses.

Hon Tu’i’onetoa claimed that this Government has put a major change in choosing the Directors of the Board for all Government’s business.

The Directors’ roles were traditionally chosen by the Minister of Enterprises and some Directors ended up involved with more than one Board.

PM stated that the former Government’s Minister for Public Enterprises usually appointed the members for the Board of Directors.

But this Government decided to implement new ways of doing things such as advertising the roles and allowing people to apply for the Director’s roles fair and square.

Except if the process does not get the end result of having a suitable candidate for the job then the Minister for Public Enterprises will choose the best available one for the job.

The Prime Minister and this Government set out the visions and certain goals for each Government’s Board to work in-hand with the Cabinet to achieve those goals and help the most vulnerable needs of the people.

The Boards of Directors required hard-working people that interested in helping the people and also the rebuilding of Tonga rather than having VIP Directors that speak louder than actions.

These Board of Directors should support the Prime Minister and this Government in helping the most vulnerable people in Tonga.
