27 July 2020 Minister of Health Hon Dr ‘Amelia Afuha’amango Tu’ipulotu confirmed today through press conference that 14 days quaranteen for all 57 passengers from Fiji have been completed.
All 57 passengers plus 26 frontline workers have been tested negative for COVID-19. These frontline workers are 16 workers from the Ministry of Health, 6 Army Forces, 2 Fire Officers, and 2 Laboratory Officers or Medical Scientists.
All 24 frontline staffs were quarantine together with the 57 passengers at the Tanoa Dateline Hotel away from their families for 14 days. This is a success despite the challenges that everyone faced during the quarantine process.
However, Tonga is looking forward to bring back the Tongan people from Aotearoa New Zealand regardless of many more challenges ahead.
Hon Tu’ipulotu said and I quoted, “We are building our ship as we are sailing during the toughest century of COVID-19.”
There were so many people to acknowledge in regard to the combat against the COVID-19 including the Minister of MEIDECC Hon Poasi Tei and CEO Paula Ma’u, Health CEO Dr. Siale Akau’ola, Dr. Reynold ‘Ofanoa, Ministry of Police, Fire, Army Forces and so many more to mention.
