27th July, 2020 A 2-day “Surfing the Wave of Tourism” theme retreat for the staff of the Ministry of Tourism kicked off Thursday 23rd July 2020 at the newly built Katea Beach Resort at Nakolo, Tongatapu.
The aim of the Ministry’s retreat was to boost the morale of the staff and gear them up to explore ways in which to improve tourism during these difficult times with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry worldwide. The retreat gave staff an opportunity to discuss the success stories and address the challenges faced in the last financial year 2019/2020.
In the Minster for Tourism, Hon. ‘Akosita Havili Lavulavu’s address at the opening of the retreat, she stated that it is important for the Ministry to finalize the Whale Watching regulations, a popular tourist activity that draws thousands to the Kingdom each year. Lavulavu also encouraged the younger staff to continue on with their higher education and also thanked the staff for all their hard work and effort.
The CEO, Mr. Sione Finau Moala-Mafi and HOD’s were keen to discuss with their teams their work plans for the future and the way forward in achieving the Ministry’s goals.
