13 July 2020 Minister of Health Hon Dr ‘Amelia Afuha’amango Tu’ipulotu announced this morning through a press conference that 58 Tongan passengers from Fiji are expected to arrive today at Fu’amotu International Airport around 12.45 pm.

Hon Tu’ipulotu stated that all 58 passengers were tested negative before departing from the Nausori Airport in Suva, Fiji around 10 am today.

It is now therefore safe for these passengers to cross the border and still applied the 14 days quarantine at the Tanoa Dateline International Hotel so as an additional 7 days home quarantine before exposing themselves into the community.

All 58 passengers were introduced through the quarantine procedure and the significance of ensuring to follow the law during the 14 days quarantine at the Tanoa Hotel.

Once the passengers arrive at the Fu’amotu International Airport, the frontline team at the airport will conduct a fever testing at a certain distance from the passengers before escorting them to the Tanoa Hotel.

The passengers will be escorted by the Police and the Army Forces from Fu’amotu Airport to the Tanoa International Hotel in Nuku’alofa.

A full COVID-19 check will be conducted by two Medical Doctors at the Tanoa Hotel. Hence, these two Medical Doctors will stay 14 days quarantine at the Tanoa hotel together with the 58 passengers.

Military will help guard the venues during the quarantine period to protect everyone from any risks of physical contact with the 58 passengers and ensured that the repatriation restrictions are followed.

The repatriation restrictions was declared by the Tonga Police Commissioner last week that as Monday the 13th of July 2020, members of the public are prohibited from accessing or entering the Fu’amotu International Airport and the Tanoa Dateline International Hotel.

The restriction area is set out in the map below.
